ore information about Rolfing is available at the website for The Rolf Institute® of Structural Integration, www.rolf.org and research on Rolfing and fascia. An old friend and colleague, Robert Schleip, Ph.D. along with Rolfer and physiatrist, Thomas Findley, MD PhD initiated the first international conference on fascia at Harvard in 2007. Their organization’s – Fascia Research Congress has an excellent description of fascia. Additionally, Science Magazine published a clear description of the conference and fascia. They include a great picture of fascia that gives you the sense of how it is a web.
An old colleague of mine, Andrew Weil, MD, does what he does best – describe holistic health in understandable terms when he writes about Four Reasons to Try Rolfing. Several Rolfers created a searchable archive of articles on Rolfing with The Ida P. Rolf Library. As yoga continues to grow, more yoga students and teachers are discovering how Rolfing aids their yoga. Check out this Yoga Journal article for more information. Paralleling the growth of yoga are spas. Healing Lifestyles and Spas published an article on Rolfing.
One of the powerful effects of Rolfing is how it removes chronic stress from the body. Once gone, clients learn how to not recreate the stress, thereby sustaining their changes from Rolfing. Altering these old habits is possible with practice. Owen encourages his clients to use the resources of StressedOut.org, a blog he produces on reduction stress.
Media articles on the subject of Rolfing:
Oprah Winfrey’s Show had a section on Rolfing. Oprah’s interest in holistic health and discovering what works, not necessarily what is traditionally accepted, drove her to explore Rolfing. Rolfing’s recognition for being a state of the art therapy continues to grow; Oprah’s support is only another indication of it. Thank you Oprah for supporting Rolfing!
